Presentation

Why a Presentation?

A large part of graduate studies, and professional work, is making presentations and analyzing the work being presented. The goal of this part of the course is to give you practice in these areas.

The Presentation

Please choose a paper from any of the following conferences held in 2014 or 2015:

If you find a paper from some other security conference, please check with me to see if it acceptable.

In the second part of the term, we will have 15-minute sessions for each of you to present your paper. Please prepare slides (you can use a LaTeX package, PowerPoint, or anything like that) for your talk. Remember to keep your audience in mind when you do this; several books, web sites, and other material discuss how to create and deliver a good presentation.

When you choose your paper, please announce it on the Wiki in the class SmartSite area. That way, others will know what you have chosen and not select the same paper.

The Questioning

Once the papers are chosen, a member of the class will be to each paper as the questioner. As a questioner, your goal is to lead a 5-minute discussion that will bring out details to further explain the work done in the paper, or suggest a future direction based on the work in the paper, or to critique the work done in the paper.

To ensure that you have something to start with, you are to prepare at least 3 questions that you can use to lead the discussion. You must submit these to SmartSite, but you need not ask all these questions if the first (or some subset of them) leads to a productive discussion.

What Is Due and When

Please submit the following on the dates indicated:

  1. Paper selection: due on Friday, January 22
  2. Questions: due the day before the paper for which you are the questioner is to be presented.
